After rooting your Galaxy Tab GT-P1000, you can perform various operations like flashing custom ROMs, recoveries, kernels, taking nandroid backup, increasing internal memory, overclocking CPU and removing bloatware etc. This Tab GT-P1000 was officially launched with Android v2.2 Froyo which was later upgraded to Android v2.3 Gingerbread OS. But after GB Samsung stopped launching further updates to this tablet which broke hearts of many users. They had only one way to enjoy the latest Android OS i.e. by flashing unofficial custom ROMs. But before flashing custom ROM you need to root your device. The below given guide can be used for both Froyo as well as Gingerbread running OS. Interested users can proceed to our actual guide to root & install CWM recovery on Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 given further.
Try this process at your own risk. We won’t be held responsible if any damage occurs to your Galaxy Tab GT-P1000. Although there are least chances of such thing to happen still you must attempt each and every step correctly as mentioned. Also note that this guide for rooting and installing CWM custom recovery is only compatible for Samsung Galaxy Tab bearing the model number GT-P1000. Do not apply this on any other device or variant as it may cause highly damage to your device. So ensure that the tablet you are using is of the same model number as mentioned. You can confirm the same from Menu->Settings->About Phone.
Pre-Requisites:
- Charge battery of your Galaxy Tab at least upto 60% so as reduce the risk of interruption during the flashing process.
- This procedure will void your device warranty. But if you want to regain it back then you can do that by un-rooting your Galaxy Tab GT-P1000.
- Ensure that mobile specific drivers are installed on your Computer for detecting your tablet when connected through USB cable. You can install them by installing Samsung Kies or manually install them from the links given below:
- The process involves transfer of files between PC and your mobile. For that, you must enable the USB Debugging mode on your device by following the given path: Menu->Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging.
- Also enable Unknown sources option located at Menu->Settings->Applications->Unknown sources.
- Temporary disable Antivirus and firewall protection as they may interrupt the process.
Procedure to Root Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000
Procedure:
Step 1: Download DoomLord’s Toolkit on your computer and extract it in a specific folder. You’ll find the following files after extracting:
Step 2: Using USB data cable connect your Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 to computer. Make sure you’ve properly installed the device drivers so as to detect your tablet when connected to PC.
Note: Do not mount SD card just connect your Tab to PC.
Step 3: Double click on runme.bat file. This will launch the command window.
Step 4: Now press any key to initiate the rooting process.
Be patient and wait for a minute to complete the process.
All Done message appearing in the command window will confirm that the Rooting process has successfully completed.
Step 5: You may now disconnect the tablet from PC and reboot once.
After rebooting go to the applications and you’ll find a Superuser app installed in your device which will confirm that you’ve successfully Rooted your Galaxy Tab GT-P1000.

Step 1: Download and extract Superoneclick in a specific folder on your computer. You’ll find the following files after extracting:
Step 2: Using USB data cable connect your Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 to PC.
Note: Do not mount SD card just connect your Tab to PC.
Step 3: Double click on Superoneclick.exe file. This will launch a window as shown below:
Step 4: Now click on the Root option to initiate the rooting process.
Step 5: The Rooting process will begin and will take few minutes to complete.
Success message will confirm that Rooting has completed. Just disconnect your Tab from PC and restart once.

Step 1: Download and install the z4root app on your tablet.
Step 2: Now launch the app.
Step 3: Click on the Permanent Root option.
Step 4: As soon as you click on it, the Rooting process will be initiated.
Wait for a minute to complete it successfully. The app will also install SU binaries and Busybox.
That’s it! You’ve successfully Rooted your Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000. Now you are free from the restrictions imposed by the manufacturers. You can flash custom ROMs, recoveries, kernels, take nandroid backup, overclock CPU and do much more!
Procedure to install CWM recovery on Galaxy Tab GT-P1000

Step 1: Download and extract the Odin v3 v1.7 software on your computer.
Step 2: Similarly download the CWM recovery.rar file in a specific folder on your computer. Do not extract this CWM recovery.
Step 3: Then power off your Galaxy Tab.
Step 4: Now you need to enter the downloading mode. For that simply press and hold Volume down + Power button simultaneously until you land into Downloading mode.
Step 5: Launch the Odin v3 v1.7 software which you’ve just downloaded on your computer.
Step 6: Now using the USB data cable connect your tablet (which is in download mode) to computer.
Step 7: As soon as you connect your Galaxy Tab to computer, the Odin Tool will automatically recognize the device by showing Added message in the left panel of Odin window. Also the ID:COM section located at the top left will be turned yellow with a random COM port number appearing below it.
Note: If such thing doesn’t happen then download and re-install the Samsung USB drivers from the link given in Pre-Requisites section. If the problem still persists then replace USB data cable or use a proper working USB port.
Step 8: Tick the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time options present in the Odin window. Keep the rest options as they are.
Note: Do not tick Re-Partition option as it can increase the chance of bricking your device.
Step 9: Click on the PDA button and browse to the CWM recovery (.rar) file and select it.
Step 10: Hit the Start button to initiate the Clockworkmod recovery flashing process. Do not unplug the cable and wait for the process to complete.
Step 11: After few minutes, PASS! above the ID:COM section will confirm that CWM recovery flashing process has completed successfully. You may safely unplug the USB cable now.
To check whether CWM recovery has properly flashed on your tab or not, you need to boot your device into recovery mode. For doing so, keeping the phone in switched off mode simply press Volume up key + Power button simultaneously until you land into CWM recovery.

Step 1: Download and install ROM Manager app on your tab.
Step 2: Launch the App.
Step 3: Click on the Recovery Setup option.
Step 4: On the next screen click on Install Clockworkmod recovery option.
Step 5: On the next screen confirm your phone’s model and tap on the Flash Clockworkmod recovery option to initiate the CWM recovery flashing process.
After a minute Clockworkmod recovery will get successfully flashed.
