The procedure given below for rooting and flashing the TWRP custom recovery on your Samsung Galaxy A5 is considered to be of much risk. Neither I nor the developers will be held responsible / liable if any damage happens to your device. Although it is very unlikely that such thing will happen still I recommend you to perform everything correctly as mentioned. Everything mentioned below is only compatible for Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone. So don’t even think of trying this on any other device as it may cause permanent damage.
Pre-Requisites:
- Rooting will void your device warranty. But don’t worry if you want to regain it back just unroot the device.
- Backup all your data including Contacts, Apps, Messages, call logs, notes, APN settings and copy it somewhere for safety.
- Charge your phones battery at least up to 60% so as to minimize the risk of interruption during the process.
- Make sure that the Mobile specific drivers are installed on your Computer. You can install them by installing Samsung Kies or manually install them from the link given below:
- Enable the USB Debugging mode on your device by following the path Menu->Settings->Developer options->USB Debugging.
Procedure to Root Galaxy A5:

Step 1: Depending upon your device model number download the respective CF-Auto Root zip file on your computer. Extract it in a specific folder. You’ll see the following files after extraction:
Step 2: Now Power off your Galaxy A5 completely until it vibrates.
Step 3: Boot your Galaxy A5 into downloading mode. For doing so, simultaneously press and hold Home button (middle button) + Volume Down key + Power button until you see a warning message.
Step 4: Leave all the three buttons and just press Volume Up key to continue. This will land your phone into downloading mode.
Step 5: Keeping your phone as it is in downloading mode, connect it to computer via USB data cable.
Step 6: Next launch the Odin Multi Downloader3-v3.07 from the extracted zip file. As soon as you launch it, you’ll see an ‘Added’ message appears on the Odin window. Also the ID:COM section will turn light blue in color with a random COM PORT number below it.
Note: If such thing doesn’t happen, then it must be problem with your device drivers. So re-install mobile specific drivers or try with new USB data cable or with new USB port.
Step 7: On the Odin window, click on PDA tab and locate the ‘CF-Auto Root.tar’ file from the extracted folder & select it.
Step 8: Simply press the Start button located on the Odin window to initiate the Rooting process. Your Galaxy A5 will automatically reboot itself while the process goes on.
Note: Do not unplug USB data cable until the process completes.
Step 9: The Rooting process will complete in a minute. You’ll see the ID:COM section on the Odin window is turned green with the message ‘Pass’ below it. You may safely remove the USB cable now.
Note: If the process fails or if Odin gets stuck or in case your device gets boot loops, then don’t panic. Just close the Odin window, go into downloading mode and repeat the whole process again.
That’s it! You’ve successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone. An app named SuperSU installed on your phone will confirm that your phone is rooted. This SuperSU app supervises each and every app that requires a root access.

Step 1: Download and install King Root v4.5.2 app on your Galaxy A5.
Step 2: Launch it and click on the Try to Root option. This will initiate the rooting process.
Step 3: Be patient and wait for a minute to complete the rooting process.
Step 4: After successful completion, you’ll see green tick with Root successfully message below it. This will confirm that your Galaxy A5 has been successfully gained the Root access.
Note: Kinguser and some other Chinese application will be automatically installed on your phone. To replace this application with Super SU follow the steps given below:
Step 1: Download and install SuperSU-me app on your phone.
Step 2: Launch the app and grant root permissions.
Step 3: Once SuperSU-me app is launched tap on the Blue Android button to start the replacing process.
The process will complete in a minute and the Kinguser and other Chinese apps will get replaced by SuperSU.
Procedure to install TWRP custom recovery on Galaxy A5:

Step 1: Download and install the Flashify App on your phone.
Step 2: Then download and copy the TWRP recovery.img file on your phones internal/external memory.
Step 3: Then launch Flashify App and grant the Superuser permissions.
Step 4: Select Flash option and click on the recovery image option.
Step 5: Next, select the choose a file option.
Step 6: Navigate to the TWRP recovery.img file which you’ve just downloaded and copied in your phone and select it.
Step 7: The app will ask is it sure to flash recovery, just select Yup to start the flashing process.
That’s it! You’ve successfully flashed TWRP custom recovery on your Galaxy A5 smartphone. To verify the same boot your phone into recovery mode by pressing & holding Volume Up key + Home button (Middle button) + Power button simultaneously until you enter the recovery.
Note: It is recommended to not reboot from the flashify app as it may cause boot loops issue. Close the app and manually reboot the phone.

Step 1: Download both the files in a specific folder on PC.
Step 2: Switch off your Galaxy A5. You need to boot it into downloading mode. For that press and hold Home button (middle button) + Volume Down key + Power button until you see a warning message.
Step 3: Leave all the three buttons and just press Volume Up key to continue. This will land your phone into downloading mode.
Step 4: Keep the phone as it is and connect it to PC using USB cable.
Step 5: Launch Odin Multi downloader.
Step 6: Click the AP tab and select the TWRP recovery file.
Note: If md5 mismatch error occurs, remove .md5 extension from the file.
Step 7: Click the Start button to initialize the TWRP custom recovery flashing process.
Step 8: You’ll get Pass message after the process completes successfully.
