Update Galaxy A5 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM 12.1 ROM. Samsung Galaxy A5 is the most stylish and classy phone which was released with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS last year. After the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, there were many users waiting to receive this latest android version on their devices. But unfortunately only a few lucky ones were able to feel this Lollipop firmware. Remaining others needed to rely on those unofficial custom ROMs created by third party developers. Recently mygalaxya, a senior member from XDA community developed the famous Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM especially for Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone. This CM 12.1 nightly build is based on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. This way you can enjoy and experience the latest Lollipop flavored features on your device.

Cyanogenmod community have come a long way with enhancing the Android experience, and it shows here in this nightly build. When it comes to added features, they have packed pretty much everything you need. Some newly added features from Cyanogenmod are live display, LCD density, notification manager, lock screen visualizer, ambient display and gestures. Along with that you’ll also experience a refurnished Google home with new launcher, new phone dialer app, screen recording, core system processes trimmed, full screen immersive mode, seamless change in resolution during media playback, new gallery and redesigned quick office app with it.

Despite this, it should be noted that this unofficial Cyanogenmod 12.1 nightly build is currently in working stage, which means there are still bugs that are yet to be fixed. But no worries as with the upcoming nightly updates, all those bugs and issues will get cleared up. Pre-Requisites:

• Ensure that the battery of your Galaxy A5 is charged at least up to 60% so as to minimize the risk of interruption during the installation process.

• You must backup all your important data including your contacts, apps, SMS/MMS, call logs, memos and APN settings etc. You may use any backup app or simple copy everything on your PC for more safety. This is essential as everything gets wiped in the last step of this process.

Procedure:
Step 1: Depending upon your device model download the zip package files on your PC. Do not extract them.
Step 2: Then using USB data cable connect your Galaxy A5 to PC, enable mass storage mode and transfer the zip files on your phones internal/external storage.
Note: If your PC doesn’t recognize your Galaxy A5, make sure device specific drivers are properly installed or you may change USB cable or port.
Step 3: Safely disconnect your device from PC & switch it off completely until it vibrates. Now you need to boot your Galaxy A5 into TWRP recovery mode. The same can be done by pressing & holding Volume up + Home button (middle button) + Power button together till you land into TWRP recovery.
Firstly you need to take nandroid backup of your current ROM. This nandroid backup is the backup of your entire operating system & is always helpful in case of failure while flashing process. If any thing goes wrong, you can restore your previous saved ROM.

Step 4: For taking nandroid backup, click on the Backup option present on the main menu of recovery. On the next screen select the options you want to take backup of and just Swipe to start the backup process.

Step 5: Next you need to wipe the data/cache present on your device. So press back button to return to main menu of TWRP recovery and select the Wipe option. On the next screen select the dalvik cache, system, data, cache and swipe to start the wiping process.

Note: This step will clear all the data & caches from your phones memory. Hence a backup of entire data must be done before implementing this step.
Let’s flash the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based CM 12.1 ROM now.
Step 6: Press back button to return to main menu and select the Install option. This will show you all the files present on your phones memory.
Step 7: Just navigate to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM and select it. On the next screen just swipe to start the actual flashing process. Be patient and wait for the process to complete.

After completion, you’ll see a message saying successful on the screen.
Step 8: Similarly flash the Google Apps (containing Google Play Store, Maps, Gmail, GTalk etc.) and the SuperSU zip files as you’ve flashed this Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM. Do not wipe anything after flashing it.
Step 10: Everything completes here, just restart your Galaxy A5 by selecting the Reboot option present on the TWRP recovery mode itself. This first boot will take more time to start than usual.

Note: If you want to restore back your previous Rom, then you can do that by going back to the TWRP recovery and selecting Restore option. Then select the saved ROM you want to restore.

First of all, I would like to mention that this ROM is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS but its beautiful Android L customization gives a complete feel of latest Android Lollipop OS. This ROM is stable and all the features are working still if you face any bug or issues then don’t worry with further upcoming updates they’ll surely get cleared. This ROM is developed only to experience the look and feel of Android Lollipop on galaxy Gio. Procedure:
Step 1: Download the ROM and Google Apps zip package files on your Computer. Do not extract them.
Step 2: Now connect your Galaxy Gio to Computer, enable Mass storage mode and copy both the zip files on your phones SD card. Do not place them in deep directories.
Step 3: Safely disconnect your Galaxy Gio from computer and switch it off completely.
Step 4: Boot your phone into CWM recovery mode now. For doing so, press and hold ‘Home Button (middle button) + Volume up + Power Button’ simultaneously until you land into CWM recovery mode.
Note: Touch will not work in recovery, so you’ll have to use Volume Up and Down keys for navigation and Home button for selection.
As soon as you enter the CWM recovery, take a complete backup of your current ROM. Such backup is called as nandroid backup which basically is the backup of your entire operating system & is much helpful in times of failed installation.

Step 5: For taking a complete nandroid backup, navigate to the ‘backup & restore’ option on the recovery mode itself and on the next screen select ‘backup’ option. This will make a complete nandroid backup of your current ROM and it will be saved in your phones SD card under the name ‘clockworkmod’.

Step 6: Then you need to wipe the data and cache partitions from your phones memory. For doing so, navigate to the ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option using volume keys. Then select it using Home button. On the next screen select Yes option to start the wiping process. Similarly navigate to the ‘wipe cache partition’ option and select it to wipe the caches.

Note: This step will clear entire data from your phones memory including contacts, messages, apps, memos, call logs etc. So take a complete backup of every data before attempting this step.
Step 7: Return back to the main menu and select the Advanced option. On the next screen select Reboot Recovery  option.

Wait until you boot again into recovery.
Let’s flash the Android L themed ROM now.
Step 8: Return back and select the ‘install zip from SD card ‘ option. Then on the next screen select ‘choose zip from SD card’ option. This will display all the files & folders present on your external SD card. Just select the Android Lollipop themed ROM zip package file which you’ve copied earlier. Press ‘Yes’ option on the next screen to initiate the actual flashing process. Just wait few minutes to complete the Omni ROM flashing process.

Step 9: After successfully completing the flashing process, select ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option followed by ‘wipe cache partition’ option on the recovery mode to clear all your data & caches from the phones memory respectively.
Note: This step is essential to overcome the boot loop issue.
Step 10: Similarly flash the Google Apps (containing Google Play Store, Maps, Gmail, GTalk etc.) as you’ve flashed the Android Lollipop themed ROM. Just remember not to wipe data/cache after flashing it.
Step 11: That’s all! After implementing everything mentioned above just reboot your Galaxy Gio by selecting ‘reboot system now’ option from the recovery mode. You’ll notice that the first boot takes more time to start than usual.

Note: If you want to restore back your previous saved Rom, then boot your Galaxy Gio into recovery mode and select ‘Backup and Restore’ option and then on next page select ‘Restore’ option. Then select the saved ROM you want to restore.

Step 3: Then safely disconnect your Galaxy W from PC and switch it off. Boot your phone into CWM recovery mode. For doing so, press and hold Home button (middle button) + Power button + Volume Up button simultaneously till you enter CWM recovery mode.
Note: Touch won’t work in this recovery mode. So use Volume keys for navigating up and down and use Home button for selection.
As you land into recovery firstly take a complete backup of the ROM which you are currently using. This is the backup of your phones entire operating system and is called as Nandroid backup. It is always helpful in case of failure during flashing process or any problem with the ROM, then you can easily restore your saved previous ROM.

Step 4: For taking nandroid backup of your current ROM, use Volume keys and navigate to the ‘backup & restore’ option on the CWM recovery mode and on the next screen select ‘backup’ option using Home button. This will make a complete nandroid backup and it will be saved on your phones SD card.

Step 5: Next you need to wipe the data and cache partitions from your phones memory. For doing so, navigate to the ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option using volume keys. Select it using Home button. On the next screen press Yes option to start the wiping process. Similarly navigate to the ‘wipe cache partition’ option and select it to wipe the caches.

Note: This step will clear entire data from your phones internal memory including contacts, messages, apps, memos, call logs etc. So take a complete backup of every data before performing this step.
Step 6: Return back to the main menu and select the Advanced option present on the recovery mode. On the next screen select Reboot Recovery  option.

Wait until you boot again into recovery.
Let’s move to the actual Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM12.1 ROM flashing process.
Step 7: Now navigate to the ‘install zip from SD card’ option and select it using Home button. Then on the next screen select ‘choose zip from SD card’ option. This will show you all the data present on your external SD card. So navigate to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM which you’ve copied earlier and select it. On the next screen select ‘Yes’ option to initiate the actual Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM flashing process. You need to wait for a minute as the process completes.

Step 8: Now again select ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option and ‘wipe cache partition’ option to clear phones data & cache. This step is must in order to solve the boot loops issue.
Step 9: Similarly flash the Google Apps (containing Google Play Store, Maps, Gmail, GTalk etc.) as you’ve flashed the Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM. Just remember not to wipe data/cache after flashing it.
Step 10: Return back and select the ‘reboot system now’ option  to restart your Samsung Galaxy W i8150 smartphone. You’ll notice that the boot takes more time to start than usual. But don’t worry after a couple of boots it’ll be normal.

Note: If you want to restore back your previous saved Rom, then boot your Galaxy W into recovery mode and select ‘Backup and Restore’ option and then on next page select ‘Restore’ option. Then select the saved ROM you want to restore.
