iOS 9 bricks iPhones repaired with 3rd party Touch ID / Components [Error 53]

3rd-party repairs provide such repairs that you usually won’t notice the difference and are often way cheaper than getting services from official Apple Stores. But, with iOs 9 update, things seems to be changing. Apple’s iOS 9 software update is reportedly bricking devices that have gone through third-party repairs and some of the components have been replaced with unofficial alternatives.

Many iPhone owners who have had their devices repaired at a 3rd-party center are now encountering an “Error 53” after updating to iOS 9 software releases. The majority of the affected devices are those that have gone through Display replacement that incorporates new Touch ID sensors.

The error is reportedly being caused only after the iOS 9 update is installed because users have been using their devices without any problem after getting it repaired from a 3rd party repair center. The moment they install iOS 9, the error 53 popped up, effectively rendering their iPhone useless. Apple has doesn’t provide any prior warning related to the after-effects of third-party component replacement. The user also loses all of his/her data on the device.
Antonio Olmos, a freelance photographer working on an assignment for The Guardian, found it the hard way:

I was in the Balkans covering the refugee crisis in September when I dropped my phone. Because I desperately needed it for work I got it fixed at a local shop, as there are no Apple stores in Macedonia. They repaired the screen and home button, and it worked perfectly.

Olmos kept on using the device without any problem until he went for the iOS 9 update route. He ended up with error 53, Apple could not offer a fix, and he had to get a replacement device for £270. The error 53 seems to be pretty widespread which seems normal given the popularity of the iPhone.
Kyle Wiens of the iFixit says:

The problem occurs if the repairer changes the home button or the cable. Following the software upgrade the phone in effect checks to make sure it is still using the original components, and if it isn’t, it simply locks out the phone. There is no warning, and there’s no way that I know of to bring it back to life.

Apple has responded to The Guardian confirming that the error 53 is real and provides the following explanation:

We protect fingerprint data using a secure enclave, which is uniquely paired to the touch ID sensor. When iPhone is serviced by an authorised Apple service provider or Apple retail store for changes that affect the touch ID sensor, the pairing is re-validated. This check ensures the device and the iOS features related to touch ID remain secure. Without this unique pairing, a malicious touch ID sensor could be substituted, thereby gaining access to the secure enclave. When iOS detects that the pairing fails, touch ID, including Apple Pay, is disabled so the device remains secure.
When an iPhone is serviced by an unauthorised repair provider, faulty screens or other invalid components that affect the touch ID sensor could cause the check to fail if the pairing cannot be validated. With a subsequent update or restore, additional security checks result in an ‘error 53’ being displayed … If a customer encounters an unrecoverable error 53, we recommend contacting Apple support.

Now it is unclear whether Apple introduced the error 53 to provide more security to the iPhone users, or it’s an attempt to force iPhone users to get their devices repaired only at pricey Apple Stores. Error 53 is not new, but it is only now that media is covering it in greater details and it looks like it is going to cause lots of controversy.

New iPhone 7 concept shows an incredibly cool design

We often see some awesome pieces of conceptual designs for the future iPhone devices and most of them are impractical but still fanciful. This latest iPhone 7 concept is as unlikely as any other impractical future iPhone concepts, but the designer has made the concept an incredibly cool one by adding a 5-inch secondary display on the back, water-resistance to a design that is just 3mm thick with an edge-to-edge main display.

The designer has conceptualised and incorporated all possible features that one can desire in an iPhone. Some of the prominent features shown in the concept include a 5-inch display with no bezel (edge-to-edge) that takes up all the real-estate of the front-side of the device, a secondary display that covers the back side of the conceptualised device, an all-new stereo audio system, wireless charging, and water resistance. All of this is packed inside a body made of liquid metal. Herman Haidin is the designer who articulated this piece, who thinks that there won’t be any need for the ports and buttons in future iPhone devices, that’s why you won’t find any port or button in the photos of the concept. He believes that the wireless charging, Bluetooth, and WiFi connectivity will be all needed in the future.

It’s highly unlikely of Apple to add all the features conceptualized in this design into a real future iPhone. Nevertheless, the design is one of the coolest concepts that we have seen for a future iPhone to date.

An upgrade to 32GB internal storage costs only $20, and you can also go up to 64GB for $35.
The internal storage upgrade process involves disassembly of the iPhone 6 to replace the installed flash storage chip with a new flash chip manufactured by Toshiba with more capacity. All the information stored on the old flash chip is also transferred to the new storage chip. The iOS is then reinstalled, once done, your device will be rocking a larger storage capacity than before. The whole upgrade process takes around 30 minutes to complete.
The upgrade options are currently limited to the iPhone 6, iPad Air, and some older devices. The guy in the video also reveals that around 50 storage upgrades are being done every single day at the Shenzhen location.
We do not recommend installing a 3rd party storage solution in your iPhone device. However, if you do not mind voiding your warranty or your device is already out of warranty, and you can make it to the Shenzhen market, it’s indeed a way cheaper and quicker option to get more storage available in your iPhone devices.

‘iPhone 7’ to have a flush rear camera and antenna bands removed from the back

iPhone 7 rumors mill has started picking up its pace and a recent report sheds some light on the design choices Apple has gone with for its upcoming iPhone revision, widely referred to as an iPhone 7.

In a new report, Macrumors – citing some of its undisclosed sources, reveals some new details about the design changes Apple is going to introduce in its iPhone 7 model. One bit of the report talks about potentially good camera redesign. The report states that the iPhone 7 camera won’t have a bump on the back and it will be flushed with the body of the device. Going back to flushed camera design from a protrude design as found on iPhone 6/6s/Plus will be a welcomed design change for many iPhone fans.

With another rumor making rounds claiming that the larger iPhone 7 Plus will have a dual-camera system, this recent report fails to provide any information whether that pair of rear cameras will also be flushed with the body or not.
Another welcomed change from the design point of view that Apple is reportedly planning to introduce in iPhone 7 is related to the antenna bands found on the iPhone 6/6s/Plus. MacRumors reports that iPhone 7 will be designed in such a way that will remove the antenna bands from the back of the smartphone. However, the antenna bands will still be present at the top and bottom edges of the device. Removal of antenna lines from the back cover will surely give iPhone 7 a sleeker look over its predecessors.
While Apple is known for launching a redesigned iPhone model after ever ‘s’ model release, but the report says otherwise. The report indicates that the iPhone 7 will have looks identical to the current iPhone 6s. If this turns out to be true, it’ll be interesting to see the reaction of the masses.

We have not seen any new jailbreak since Pangu 9 jailbreak tool, which was capable of jailbreaking iOS 9.0.2. This is why many in the jailbreak scene are either stuck with a jailbroken device on an older version without having access to the latest iOS feature or updated to the latest version and do not have a jailbroken device.

For those who are still hoping to see another jailbreak, iOS hacker qwertyoruiop has successfully demonstrated an untethered jailbreak for iOS 9.2, iOS 9.2.1, and 9.3 beta. The hacker has tweeted the link to a video in which he demonstrates an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 6 running iOS 9.2. He opens up the Cydia on his device to show the iOS version, executes Terminal commands, and tinkers with Winterboard themes before respringing his device.
Although the hacker demonstrated the untethered jailbreak only on iOS 9.2, he claims that the same jailbreak will also work on iOS 9.2.1 and iOS 9.3 beta. Unfortunately, the hacker writes in the video description on YouTube that this jailbreak is going to remain private: “which shall be kept private for the Leader’s enjoyment.”

The hacker released the video only for demonstration purposes to show that there’s still hope for a public jailbreak, but we’ll have to wait for a big hackers team to handle the public jailbreak release process. Since the exploits used in the demonstrated jailbreak also works on iOS 9.3 beta, it would make more sense for the jailbreak team to hold off the jailbreak tool until the final version of iOs 9.3 has been pushed to the general public.

Apple has just flipped the switch and made available iOS 9.2.1 download links for all supported iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models.
The final public release of iOS 9.2.1 comes two weeks after Apple seeded beta 2 and about a month after first beta of iOS 9.2.1 was seeded to both developers and public beta testers. It also comes a week after Apple seeded first iOS 9.3 beta which brings major new features such as Night Shift to iPhone and iPad.

 iOS 9.2.1 is mainly a minor bug fix release. Full official change-log is as follows:

This update contains security updates and bug fixes including a fix for an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using an MDM server.

If you are jailbroken on iOS 9.0-9.0.2, it is important to know that currently there is no public jailbreak available for iOS 9.1+ devices. You might want to stay away from iOS 9.2.1 until a jailbreak tool is made available for iOS 9.1, 9.2 and 9.2.1.
If you don’t care about jailbreaking though, you can update your device to iOS 9.2.1 using OTA (Over-The-Air) method. Simply head to Settings > General > Software Update and update directly from there.

Alternatively, if you want to clean install iOS 9.2.1, you can do so by restoring the IPSW file from iTunes. Just make sure you backup everything before hitting that Restore iPhone button.

Am having same hassle for every week now. I tough reset without connecting to google account and voila.The apps are lower back. I don't realize how or when they were given stuck into the ROM, however they simply re-appear as quickly as you restart.They preserve popping ads by using google and randomly install wasabee.Apk or other comparable utility.
AVG detects them as chance/virus and uninstalls but cant prevent them from installing back,

Method:

Before starting turn off your wifi so "android system has stopped message" could not come up.If its coming continuously and you are unable to do anything so simply go to applications>Running and force stop all below mentioned apps if you find any and disable the apps in All Applications Tab that i described below and then start the procedure to permanently get rid of these apps. 

1. First of all you need to Download some files

1. Vroot (iRoot) or Kingo Root 
2. Titanium Backup Modified Version ( only download this modified version)
3. Appropriate drivers for your mobile

If you are already rooted so move on to Step 5 and no need  of iRoot and drivers,Just Titanium Backup will do the job.

2. Install iRoot on your Computer or Laptop and Drivers for your device.

3. Open iRoot or Kingo Root and Plug in your android phone into laptop with wire and enable Debugging Mode by Going into Settings>Developer Options>Enable Debugging Mode.
If there is no Developer Options then Go to Settings>About and Click on Build Number many times untill you get a message that You are a Developer now.After this you can see Developers option in your Settings.

4. Click on root button in iRoot on PC or Laptop to Root your Phone.Your phone will reboot and yes you are rooted now.Move on to next step.

5. Install Titanium Backup from the given link and open it and give it root permissions by clicking on Allow button when prompted to do so.

7.Now go to settings>applications and Disable any application from the above described apps if you find any one of these in your applications list and clear data of all these.

8. Now again open Titanium Backup and freeze apps which you uninstalled before if these are still there.

9.Here you Go.You are Done.But for precaution, again go to Settings>Apps and Disable any app you find suspicious.

The Virus has permanently Frozen and Eliminated from your device.Now Restart your phone and turn on wifi without any annoying "androidsystem has stopped message".If you see these applications again in your system,don't worry because now they can do nothing.They are not in your system anymore.They have Removed but left their names in your root folder.If you want to remove their names as well then open root explorer or any file explorer which can open your root directory or system folder.Go to System>Data>apps and delete above mentioned files.

2-Now Go to Download Mode of Samsung Galaxy s2 plus (Click Here To Watch Video) by pressing Volume Down+Home Button along with Power Button until a message appears saying you to continue or restart your phone.Press volume up button to continue and go to download mode.Now you are in Download mode of Samsung Galaxy s2 or Galaxy S2 Plus.

3-If you have installed kies, then no need to download drivers again otherwise install proper drivers for SG 2 Plus in PC and Open Odin in your laptop or desktop pc and connect Samsung Galaxy S2 to Laptop or PC with Data Cable.You will see that Odin colour changed.

4-Once your phone is successfully connected to your PC or Laptop, ID:COM section on ODIN will turn to blue showing com port number as shown below in the image.

5-Extract or Unzip the downloded file (Firmware for S2 GT-i9105/P) in a folder in PC.You will get a Home.tar file.

6-Click on pda in odin (if you installed odin 3.09 on PC, then choose AP instead of pda) and choose the file "xxxx.tar.md5".

7-Also check "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options and its important to make sure that "Re-Partition" is unchecked.

8-Click on Start button in ODIN window to start the installation process. The process will take some time to complete depending upon your PC speed.

9-When the installation will be completed, you will see a "Pass" message. and your phone will be restarted.First restart will take some time (maximum 5 to 10 minutes).

AT&T is now bringing back its unlimited data plan which the number two wireless carrier in the US had phased out years ago, but there are some big catches. The wireless carrier is re-launching its unlimited data plan as a cross-promotion with its DirectTV and U-Verse TV services. If you are going to subscribe any of these two Television services, both offered by AT&T, then you can subscribe for an unlimited data plan every month from the wireless carrier.

iOS 9.2.1 beta 2 is now available for testing

Apple has released a new beta update for its mobile operating system to the registered iOS

Developers. iOS 9.2.1 beta 2 has been pushed to those who have enrolled into Apple’s iOS developer program. Apple pushed the update on January 4th when the Consumer Electronics Show was going to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.


The first beta of iOS 9.2.1 was released just over two week ago. The current version of iOS available to the general public was a relatively minor software update bringing numerous bug fixes, performance improvements, under-the-hood changes, and also improved the overall user experience for Apple Music, iBooks, Mails, and other built-in applications.
Those who have already been rocking the first beta of iOS 9.2.1, can easily update to the second beta via built-in OTA update feature. You can do that by going into Settings > General > Software Update. Root & install TWRP custom recovery on Galaxy A5. If you want to root your Galaxy A5 smartphone then you are at the right place. Here in this guide we’ll discuss the easiest step by step procedure on how to Root & install TWRP custom recovery on Galaxy A5.

Procedure to Root Galaxy A5:

Method 1: Using RF-Auto Root

Downloads:

Procedure:
Step 1: Depending upon your device model number download the respective CF-Auto Root zip file on your computer. Extract it in a specific folder. You’ll see the following files after extraction:

Step 2: Now Power off your Galaxy A5 completely until it vibrates.
Step 3: Boot your Galaxy A5 into downloading mode. For doing so, simultaneously press and hold Home button (middle button) + Volume Down key + Power button until you see a warning message.
Step 4: Leave all the three buttons and just press Volume Up key to continue. This will land your phone into downloading mode.
Step 5: Keeping your phone as it is in downloading mode, connect it to computer via USB data cable.
Step 6: Next launch the Odin Multi Downloader3-v3.07 from the extracted zip file. As soon as you launch it, you’ll see an ‘Added’ message appears on the Odin window. Also the ID:COM section will turn light blue in color with a random COM PORT number below it.

Note: If such thing doesn’t happen, then it must be problem with your device drivers. So re-install mobile specific drivers or try with new USB data cable or with new USB port.
Step 7: On the Odin window, click on PDA tab and locate the ‘CF-Auto Root.tar’ file from the extracted folder & select it.

Step 8: Simply press the Start button located on the Odin window to initiate the Rooting process. Your Galaxy A5 will automatically reboot itself while the process goes on.

Note: Do not unplug USB data cable until the process completes.
Step 9: The Rooting process will complete in a minute. You’ll see the ID:COM section on the Odin window is turned green with the message ‘Pass’ below it. You may safely remove the USB cable now.

Note: If the process fails or if Odin gets stuck or in case your device gets boot loops, then don’t panic. Just close the Odin window, go into downloading mode and repeat the whole process again.
That’s it! You’ve successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone. An app named SuperSU installed on your phone will confirm that your phone is rooted. This SuperSU app supervises each and every app that requires a root access.

Method 2: Using King Root

Downloads:

1. Download King Root v4.5.2 Apk.

1. Download SuperSU-me Apk.

Procedure:
Step 1: Download and install King Root v4.5.2 app on your Galaxy A5.
Step 2: Launch it and click on the Try to Root option. This will initiate the rooting process.

Step 3: Be patient and wait for a minute to complete the rooting process.

Step 4: After successful completion, you’ll see green tick with Root successfully message below it. This will confirm that your Galaxy A5 has been successfully gained the Root access.

Note: Kinguser and some other Chinese application will be automatically installed on your phone. To replace this application with Super SU follow the steps given below:
Step 1: Download and install SuperSU-me app on your phone.
Step 2: Launch the app and grant root permissions.
Step 3: Once SuperSU-me app is launched tap on the Blue Android button to start the replacing process.

The process will complete in a minute and the Kinguser and other Chinese apps will get replaced by SuperSU.

Procedure to install TWRP custom recovery on Galaxy A5:

Method 1: Using Flashify App(Only for rooted phones)

Downloads:

1. Download Flashify Android App.

1. Download TWRP Recovery.img.

Procedure:
Step 1: Download and install the Flashify App on your phone.
Step 2: Then download and copy the TWRP recovery.img file on your phones internal/external memory.
Step 3: Then launch Flashify App and grant the Superuser permissions.

Step 4: Select Flash option and click on the recovery image option.

Step 5: Next, select the choose a file option.

Step 6: Navigate to the TWRP recovery.img file which you’ve just downloaded and copied in your phone and select it.
Step 7: The app will ask is it sure to flash recovery, just select Yup to start the flashing process.

That’s it! You’ve successfully flashed TWRP custom recovery on your Galaxy A5 smartphone. To verify the same boot your phone into recovery mode by pressing & holding Volume Up key + Home button (Middle button) + Power button simultaneously until you enter the recovery.
Note: It is recommended to not reboot from the flashify app as it may cause boot loops issue. Close the app and manually reboot the phone.

Method 2: Using Odin Multi Downloader

Downloads:

1. Download TWRP recovery for Galaxy A5.

1. Download Odin Multi Downloader.

Procedure:
Step 1: Download both the files in a specific folder on PC.
Step 2: Switch off your Galaxy A5. You need to boot it into downloading mode. For that press and hold Home button (middle button) + Volume Down key + Power button until you see a warning message.
Step 3: Leave all the three buttons and just press Volume Up key to continue. This will land your phone into downloading mode.
Step 4: Keep the phone as it is and connect it to PC using USB cable.

After the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, there were many users waiting to receive this latest android version on their devices. But unfortunately only a few lucky ones were able to feel this Lollipop firmware. Remaining others needed to rely on those unofficial custom ROMs created by third party developers. Recently mygalaxya, a senior member from XDA community developed the famous Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM especially for Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone. This CM 12.1 nightly build is based on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. This way you can enjoy and experience the latest Lollipop flavored features on your device.

Cyanogenmod community have come a long way with enhancing the Android experience, and it shows here in this nightly build. When it comes to added features, they have packed pretty much everything you need. Some newly added features from Cyanogenmod are live display, LCD density, notification manager, lock screen visualizer, ambient display and gestures. Along with that you’ll also experience a refurnished Google home with new launcher, new phone dialer app, screen recording, core system processes trimmed, full screen immersive mode, seamless change in resolution during media playback, new gallery and redesigned quick office app with it.

Despite this, it should be noted that this unofficial Cyanogenmod 12.1 nightly build is currently in working stage, which means there are still bugs that are yet to be fixed. But no worries as with the upcoming nightly updates, all those bugs and issues will get cleared up. If you’re still interested in installing the latest Cyanogenmod 12.1 running on the newly launched Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version on your Galaxy A5 then proceed to the guide given below.

Neither I nor the developers of this CM 12.1 ROM will be held liable in case if you brick your phone by performing the steps mentioned below. So implement everything at your own risk. Although I assure you that no such thing will happen unless and until you implement every step correctly without a single mistake. This guide is only for Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone having model number A500F, A500FU, A500G, A500H. Do not flash this ROM on any other device or variant. If tried your phone may turn into semi bricked / non functioning state.

Pre-Requisites:

• Ensure that the battery of your Galaxy A5 is charged at least up to 60% so as to minimize the risk of interruption during the installation process.

• You must backup all your important data including your contacts, apps, SMS/MMS, call logs, memos and APN settings etc. You may use any backup app or simple copy everything on your PC for more safety. This is essential as everything gets wiped in the last step of this process.

• Your Samsung Galaxy A5 must be Rooted. Also a custom recovery like Clockworkmod (CWM) or TWRP must be installed in order to flash any custom ROM. Refer our guide to do the same:

Procedure:
Step 1: Depending upon your device model download the zip package files on your PC. Do not extract them.
Step 2: Then using USB data cable connect your Galaxy A5 to PC, enable mass storage mode and transfer the zip files on your phones internal/external storage.
Note: If your PC doesn’t recognize your Galaxy A5, make sure device specific drivers are properly installed or you may change USB cable or port.
Step 3: Safely disconnect your device from PC & switch it off completely until it vibrates. Now you need to boot your Galaxy A5 into TWRP recovery mode. The same can be done by pressing & holding Volume up + Home button (middle button) + Power button together till you land into TWRP recovery.
Firstly you need to take nandroid backup of your current ROM. This nandroid backup is the backup of your entire operating system & is always helpful in case of failure while flashing process. If any thing goes wrong, you can restore your previous saved ROM.

Step 4: For taking nandroid backup, click on the Backup option present on the main menu of recovery. On the next screen select the options you want to take backup of and just Swipe to start the backup process.

Step 5: Next you need to wipe the data/cache present on your device. So press back button to return to main menu of TWRP recovery and select the Wipe option. On the next screen select the dalvik cache, system, data, cache and swipe to start the wiping process.

Note: This step will clear all the data & caches from your phones memory. Hence a backup of entire data must be done before implementing this step.
Let’s flash the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based CM 12.1 ROM now.
Step 6: Press back button to return to main menu and select the Install option. This will show you all the files present on your phones memory.
Step 7: Just navigate to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM and select it. On the next screen just swipe to start the actual flashing process. Be patient and wait for the process to complete.

After completion, you’ll see a message saying successful on the screen.
Step 8: Similarly flash the Google Apps (containing Google Play Store, Maps, Gmail, GTalk etc.) and the SuperSU zip files as you’ve flashed this Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM. Do not wipe anything after flashing it.
Step 10: Everything completes here, just restart your Galaxy A5 by selecting the Reboot option present on the TWRP recovery mode itself. This first boot will take more time to start than usual.

Note: If you want to restore back your previous Rom, then you can do that by going back to the TWRP recovery and selecting Restore option. Then select the saved ROM you want to restore.
